Singapore has created one of the most exciting environments for basic biomedical research in Asia at the Biopolis and is now poised to become a leader in translational medicine. This study will be one of the staples underpinning biomedical research here. Compared to more homogeneous populations in traditional cohort studies, Singapore is endowed with a multi-ethnic population which facilitates study for some of the most populous races in the world. While enjoying the supportive culture for this field, researchers here are also well-linked to their contemporaries worldwide.
I am very pleased to lend my experience and influence to this study and look forward to helping it develop into a valuable resource that researchers from all over may work on for years to come - to make medical discoveries which improve the health and well-being of people from Singapore, the region and around the world.
